Do you take broken or non-working appliances? Yes — most of what we haul is non-working. Broken appliances still contain recyclable metal. We assess refrigerant-containing appliances before pickup and route accepted units through the appropriate disposal or recycling channel.

How Much Does Appliance Removal Cost in Hemet?

Priced by volume and access. A ground-floor washer next to the garage door is a different job from a refrigerator coming down a narrow staircase.

Have several large metal appliances?

The scrap metal value of a fridge, water heater, and washer together can sometimes offset part of the cost. Ask when you request your quote.

If the retailer isn't hauling the old unit, we can remove it separately — before or after delivery.

Important on Lamb Canyon

Riverside County landfills charge the standard refuse rate plus an appliance surcharge. Appliances must be kept separate from your other waste — mixed loads are refused. Refrigerators must be emptied before arrival. This option is for residential customers only — not available for cleanup crews or commercial loads. Confirm current fees at rcwaste.org/landfill/fees before going.

Quick guide

Working fridge + SCE customer → check SCE first. One or two items you can move to the curb → CR&R. Can self-haul and keep appliances separated → Lamb Canyon (with fees). Broken, heavy, upstairs, or more than the free options cover → call us.

Difficult Access — Upstairs, Mobile Homes, Tight Spaces

Can you remove an appliance from upstairs or a second floor? Yes. We use appliance dollies and shoulder straps. Tell us at booking if stairs are involved — we'll send the right crew size.

Hemet has many mobile and manufactured-home communities where narrow hallways, carports, and tighter doorways make appliance removal more complicated. A garage pickup near Diamond Valley Lake is a different job from getting a washer out of a single-wide in Sierra Dawn or Panorama Village. We ask about stairs, doorways, and access when we quote — so there are no surprises on pickup day.

What Happens When You Book?

  1. Send us a photo — show the appliance and where it sits. We price the job before arrival.
  2. We confirm the price — based on volume and access. What we quote reflects the job as described — if access is significantly different from what was communicated, we confirm before starting.
  3. We arrive and assess access — doors, stairs, tight spaces, safest route out.
  4. We disconnect when applicable — standard electric and water connections handled on site. Gas or hardwired units need a licensed professional first — confirmed at quote time.
  5. We carry it out — you don't drag a refrigerator across the house. We do.
  6. We sort and haul — donation, recycling, and disposal separated.
  7. We clean the area — floor where the appliance sat, tidied before we leave.

Do I Need to Prepare the Appliance?

  • Empty the refrigerator fully — food inside means the load gets refused at the landfill
  • Defrost if possible
  • For washers: run a drain cycle to clear standing water if you can
  • Clear items around the appliance so we can reach it
  • Tell us about stairs, tight hallways, or mobile home access when you book
  • For gas appliances: have a plumber cap the line before our arrival

Why You Can't Dump a Refrigerator in Regular Trash

Can I put a refrigerator in a dumpster or leave it at the curb with regular trash? No. Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units contain refrigerant that must be properly handled before disposal. You cannot put a refrigerator, freezer, or AC unit in regular trash or an ordinary dumpster. These appliances may contain refrigerant and must go through an approved collection program, permitted landfill, or recycler that handles them correctly. Riverside County landfills do accept appliances, but with fees and specific handling requirements — not through standard disposal.

What about evaporative coolers and swamp coolers? Most use water, not refrigerant. They can go through CR&R bulky pickup or Lamb Canyon's standard appliance drop-off. Window and portable AC units do contain refrigerant and need proper handling.

Can the Appliance Be Donated or Reused?

Before disposal, working appliances should go to someone who needs them.

Donation options in Hemet:

  • Angel View, 304 S Sanderson Ave, Hemet — supports residential care and disability programs
  • Salvation Army Hemet, 1400 W Florida Ave
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore Riverside, 2180 Iowa Ave — (951) 787-6754 — call to confirm Hemet appliance pickup coverage

Recyclable? Metal components get separated for recycling even from appliances too worn to donate.

Broken or unsalvageable? Proper disposal — Lamb Canyon Landfill, 16411 Lamb Canyon Road, Beaumont. Standard fees apply.

Not everything is junk.

Common Appliance Removal Situations in Hemet

The non-working garage fridge.

A secondary refrigerator that stopped cooling years ago. SCE won't take it because it's not working. Too heavy to move alone. The free bulky pickup programs have limits — this is often what's left over after they're used up.

Swamp cooler season.

The San Jacinto Valley gets hot from June through September. Many homes in 92543 and 92544 use evaporative coolers. When they fail, getting one off a rooftop or out of a window is awkward work for one person.

Water heater replacements.

Hemet has a lot of older housing stock. When a water heater fails, the old tank — 40 or 50 gallons, very heavy — often has no straightforward disposal path. One of the most common single-appliance calls.

Mobile home turnovers.

Tight doorways, narrow hallways, carport clearance — getting an appliance out of a single-wide in Sierra Dawn or Seven Hills is a different job than a standard house.

Appliance replacement day.

A new appliance is arriving, but the old one is still in the way. We remove the worn-out unit so the replacement can go where it belongs.

Multiple appliances at once.

Kitchen, laundry room, or garage appliances can be handled together when one pickup makes more sense than several separate trips.
